Needs

KEX creates beautiful home designs and interiors, but rarely had any time left over for presentation. Their current website was clunky, basic, and overshadowed their work. Our biggest needs were to trim the fat, beautify the space, and present their work like diamond rings in a case.

Personality

Everything about their works stands out. So, it was best to treat the website like an art gallery - plenty of negative space, high-end framing, and low amounts of text. With plenty of photographs to work with, I made sure to incorporate their colorful work in every place I could.

Ideas

I created 3 drafts with varying features and interactions. The first began with a mosaic, leading into separate white pages with scrollable galleries. The second was a dark, interaction-focused site with static, click-through galleries - and lots of blur. Due to project constraints, we opted for the third idea - an extremely bold, white-page, scrolling, puzzle-like gallery.

Conclusion

We opted for Squarespace as the hosting service, allowing KEX to have full control and understanding of the site to make updates at a moment's notice. The completed design features thick sans-serif typography in a minimalist layout that frames their work like the art that it is, giving potential clients a wonderful show to scroll through.
